The Vancouver International Children’s Festival is underway this week at Granville Island. The MakerMobile team is there this year with a great all-ages activity based on exploring electricity with ‘squishy’ circuits. The squishiness is provided by a special conductive play dough (it’s safe and easy to make at home!) which is used to connect components together, including brightly coloured LEDs. Everyone gets something from this great activity. Our volunteer helpers tried it out yesterday and had fun seeing electrical principles in action! I took a few pictures of their wondrous creations which you can see here.
If you want to try this out, just come down to Granville Island. The Festival runs from 9:30am to 2:30pm Mon-Thurs, 9:30am to 6pm Fri, 10:30am to 6pm Sat, and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. We are in the Exploration Zone - entry to this zone comes free with any show ticket or you can get entry to this area for just $8 per day. Check out the Festival website for full details; apart from Squishy Circuits there’s lots of other fun and creative activities in the Exploration Zone as well!
If you can’t make it down to Granville Island, come and find us at Vancouver Mini Maker Faire next weekend (June 1st and 2nd) at the PNE forum. We will have an inexpensive Squishy Circuits kit for sale which contains the dough mixture as well as the electronic parts you need to get started in this (literally) enlightening form of creative play. Batteries included!!
All our kits are also available online via our Etsy store. http://www.etsy.com/shop/MakerMobileDIY
